Immense sadness at sudden death of Mayo woman in USA

The death of Yvonne McHugh, a native of Knockthomas, Castlebar, occurred in the USA on Friday.

The death of a young Mayo woman in the USA has evoked great sadness among communities on both sides of the Atlantic.

Yvonne Landry (née McHugh) passed suddenly but peacefully last Friday, October 3.

Originally from Riverdale Court in Knockthomas, Castlebar, Yvonne had lived in the Dorchester, Boston and Brockton, Massachusetts areas of the United States for over ten years.

Predeceased by her father Eugene McHugh and her brother James Anthony, she is survived by husband Rick and his children Ricky and Tyler, her heartbroken mother Philomena Loftus, her beloved sisters and brothers Deirdre, Fidelma, Margo, Assumpta, Ellie, Paddy and Martin, as well as by an extended family circle, especially her niece Ally, along with her many friends in Boston and Castlebar.

Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later by Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home in Castlebar who are accepting donations to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

Friends of Yvonne in the USA have also launched a fundraising campaign to help return her remains to Castlebar.

Describing Yvonne as “one of a kind”, they explained that “funds are being raised for funeral expenses including costs to bring her body back to Ireland, her final resting place.”

The appeal was launched on the GoFundMe platform on Sunday and in a matter of hours had already raised more than $16,000.

Donations can be submitted at https://gofund.me/87c8b584c.

May she rest in peace.
