Huge event taking place in north Mayo this weekend
The waters around the MV Shingle are teeming with fish life after the area became an artificial reef
225 divers are expected to descend upon north Mayo this weekend for the Western Dive Rally.
The event, hosted by Grainne Úaile Sub Aqua Club, will welcome divers, snorkelers and freedivers from across Ireland to experience some of the most spectacular coastline and underwater scenery in the country.
Divers will drop into Killala Bay to see the MV Shingle, which has become the jewel in the crown of diving tourism in the region since the former smuggling ship was dropped into the waters almost a year ago.
The Shingle was also dropped into Killala Bay with the intention of becoming an artificial reef and since last September, has begun teeming with fish life.
The Western Dive Rally takes place this weekend August 15-17 at Kilcummin Pier (F26 C7D2) with diving and snorkelling adventures, great food, beautiful scenery, a raffle and so much more.
