Good news for Mayo town as major employer agrees to stay

Genfitt has said it intends to remain in Kiltimagh.
A leading employer in Kiltimagh has announced that it will continue operating from its current facility in the east Mayo town.
Kramp, a Dutch firm that acquired Genfitt last year, had announced plans earlier this year to establish a new warehouse facility in Mayo, leading to concerns locally about up to 50 job losses resulting from the planned move.
However, Kramp has now decided to take a more strategic approach and continue operating from the current facility in Kiltimagh.
“The consequence of this decision is that we will continue operating from our current facility in Kiltimagh”, said Ronan Egan, Commercial Director of Genfitt.
“Staying in the current location allows us to strategically allocate resources to optimise our operations and prepare for future opportunities that align with our growth ambitions,” said Mr Egan.
Local councillor Adrian Forkan said this was very welcome news for the people of Kiltimagh. He said that the loss of the company would have had a knock-on effect on the rest of the town.
“A huge amount of business comes into the town every day through Genfitt and that would have been a huge loss for businesses in the town, for shops, restaurants and hotels.”
The Fianna Fáil councillor said the town is prepared to work with Genfitt to facilitate its expansion in Kiltimagh.
“As a town, if they do expand or roll out more jobs, we have to look at ways of keeping Genfitt in the town. Now is the time to start looking for a potential site for them if they do expand or build a full new warehouse, it needs to be in Kiltimagh,” he said.
“They want to grow the business and we need more jobs in Kiltimagh. Whether it is through Genfitt or through other means, we need further employment and to keep people in the town.”
Genfitt was established in Kiltimagh in 1973 and has grown to be the largest independent wholesale supplier of components, machinery parts and spares to the agricultural industry in Ireland.
