As they went to indicate to him to pull in, he 'took off like a rocket', as Gardaí described it, and refused to stop.
The car was tracked down in Ballinasloe and seized by the Tuam Roads Policing Unit for having no insurance, valid NCT or tax.
Proceedings have now been initiated against the driver.
