Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace incident at a premises at Carrowbeg, Westport, Co. Mayo this morning, Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
An explosion occurred outside AbbVie in Westport this morning, leading to an individual being hospitalised.
An Garda Síochána stated, "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace incident at a premises at Carrowbeg, Westport, Co. Mayo this morning, Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
"One person was removed from the scene with non-life threatening injuries sustained as a result of this incident.
"The Health and Safety Authority have been notified."
A spokesperson for AbbVie told the :
"We are investigating an incident at our Westport site in an isolated waste disposal area during routine operations. Our on-site emergency response team immediately responded and contained the situation in partnership with local emergency services.
"All on-site personnel are safe and accounted for. An employee of a third-party service contractor was transported to the hospital as a precaution with non-life threatening injuries."
