"Gamechanger": approval for transformative works for Mayo village

Councillors in the Claremorris Municipal District have formally proposed public realm enhancements for The Neale with view towards an application for the Town & Village Renewal Scheme.

A description of the proposed development came before last week’s area meeting which includes hard and soft landscaping works to existing and proposed link paths, a paved ‘Public Plaza’ area within the public space surrounding the Ball Alley which is to remain untouched.

The proposal also includes a dual cycle and walking lane, landscaping features, pedestrian crossings, soft planting, boundary treatments and all other associated site development works. There will be no alteration to the existing drainage routes proposed under the development.

Cllr Damien Ryan praised the work done behind the scenes by Mayo County Council to bring the project to this stage and formally proposed granting Part 8 planning permission.

“Trojan work and resources went into this and it was handled in a professional way. This MD has excelled in bringing projects forward they may have fallen behind,” he said.

“This is a gamechanger for the Neale,” he added.

Cllr Patsy O’Brien seconded the proposal.

“The Neale is a community that is pro-active and pro-development. I wish them well and want to thank the Council’s team for all the work done to date,” he said.

It is expected that an application will be put forward for The Neale under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme.
