Fundraiser for Ballinrobe mum battling cancer raises almost €66k

A fundraiser for a Ballinrobe mum who is battling stage 4 cancer has raised almost €66,000.
Shannon McDonald's father Paul and sister Mariah set up a GoFundMe page to help support her through her long battle with cancer.
Shannon is turning 31 next month and is a young mum to Alanna who is only eight-years-old.
Shannon's was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, the following year the cancer had spread near the oesophagus and in they 2023 they found it had spread to the collarbone and neck area. Shannon has been receiving a targeted treatment called Herceptin throughout her journey.

"We have received devastating news that Shannon's cancer is now stage 4 and terminal," the notice read. "Shannon is ready for the fight of her life and we as a family are not willing to give up on her.
"We are in contact with consultants and doctors in Germany, Holland and Spain about alternative treatment plans, they seem positive and ready to help Shannon on this fight.
"It will be very expensive so we are asking for your help in any way possible big or small please help Shannon on this battle ahead and help us to try and give more time and hope to Shannon, her little girl and family.
"Shannon has started treament in Galway University Hospital to keep the cancer stable but we have been told it is non-curable in Ireland. She will not be able to receive anymore radiotherapy."
Shannon thanked everyone who has kindly donate so far.
"There's not enough words to thank you all for the overwhelming love, kindess and support that I have felt from you all over the past few days," Shannon said.
"I will truly never be able to thank you all enough for what you have all done for me, I am keeping myself postive and head strong because I know I have a big battle ahead of me and with all of your help your making this possible to help save my life. From the bottom of my heart and my families we thank you all so much and continue to be so so grateful for all your love, support and kindness throughout my journey."
