Funding is sought for traffic study in Ballina
Cllr Marie-Therese Duffy highlighted the issue.
An application has been submitted for funding to conduct a traffic study in Ballina that aims to provide statistical evidence of the congestion and delays currently affecting the town.
Cllr Marie Therese Duffy sought an update on progress at the October meeting of Ballina Municipal District, following a motion she tabled last month calling for a funding request to be submitted as soon as possible.
Head of Ballina Municipal District Anna Connor said the motion had been referred to Mayo County Council’s roads department, which had since submitted a funding application.
However, she confirmed the study will not take place this year and, if the application is successful, is expected to be carried out in 2027.
Cllr Duffy had called for the study to be completed before the end of this year, arguing that up-to-date traffic figures would help strengthen the case for the proposed Eastern Bypass, noting that the Western Bypass is now progressing through the planning stages.
