Former president of Ireland Mary Robinson recently visited a local business in Ballina.
Robinson, who was the country’s first-ever female president, enjoyed lunch at Daniel's of Ballina, one of the town’s latest dining destinations, which has proven popular with both locals and visitors since opening its doors in 2025.
The Ballina native served as the seventh President of Ireland from 1990 to 1997 and remains one of the most respected public figures in Irish political history. During her presidency, she became known for her commitment to social inclusion and progressive change, helping to modernise the role of the Irish presidency.
Following her time in office, Robinson served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997 to 2002, where she became an internationally respected voice on human rights, climate justice and sustainable development. In recent years, she has continued to advocate for action on global issues, particularly in the areas of climate change, equality and environmental protection.
The visit was a welcome occasion for the team at Daniel's Bar & Restaurant, with staff honoured to host one of Ballina’s most distinguished natives. The restaurant has quickly established itself as a popular addition to the local hospitality scene, earning praise for its food, service and welcoming atmosphere.
Adding to its growing list of achievements, Daniel's was recently awarded the title of Best Newcomer Restaurant in Mayo for 2025/26, a recognition that highlights the venue’s memorable dining experience since opening.
As always, management and staff at Daniel's Bar & Restaurant would like to thank customers for their continued support and loyalty. They look forward to welcoming families, friends and visitors to the beloved O'Rahilly Street venue throughout the summer season and beyond.
