A fire at Enniscrone Golf Club shop caused damage to stock last night before local fire services managed to bring the blaze under control.

It is understood that there were no injuries and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Emergency services attended the scene overnight and Independent Councillor Joe Queenan said local people were saddened to hear about the blaze.

"It is worrying for something like that to happen in the early hours of the morning," he added.

Meanwhile, Enniscrone Golf Club shop staff were dealing with the aftermath of the fire and are surveying the damaged shop and stock before they will turn their attention to providing a customer service at a later stage.

A Garda spokesman confirmed they were alerted early on Tuesday morning.

"We attended the scene in the early hours of this morning. The fire was brought under control by local fire services," he added.

Enniscrone Golf Club has two golf courses and 27 holes and has a reputation for being one of the most scenic along the west coast.
