Driver arrested after hitting speeds of 200kph on Mayo road

A motorist was arrested and their vehicle was impounded after they were clocked driving double the speed limit on a main road in Mayo last Saturday night.
The Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out a speed Checkpoint last night on the N5 in Charlestown.
A motorist was detected travelling at a speed of 204kph in a 100kph zone.
The NCT on the vehicle had also expired by 14 months and the vehicle was impounded.
The motorist was subsequently arrested and charged for Dangerous Driving and will soon be before the courts.
