Disabled persons group holds first AGM

Under the UN CRPD, every statutory body in the country, such as county councils, are legally obliged to involve disabled people in the decision-making processes affecting their lives.
The first annual general meeting of the newly established Mayo Disabled Persons’ Organisation (DPO) will take place early next month in what is an important step towards a more inclusive county.
The Mayo DPO is a collective of individuals with lived experience of disability and is dedicated to promoting human rights, accessibility, and equality across Mayo by advancing the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).
Under the UN CRPD, every statutory body in the country, such as county councils, are legally obliged to involve disabled people in the decision-making processes affecting their lives.
The Mayo DPO will be made up entirely of disabled people and is open to all disabled people aged 18 and over. All new members are welcome.
The landmark AGM event aims to bring together members of the disabled community, local leaders, and stakeholders to address accessibility and inclusion across the county.
It takes place on Thursday, December 5, at the Great National Hotel, Ballina from 12 noon to 2pm.
