CPOs are published for major Mayo water scheme

Uisce Éireann has published CPOs for the Ballina and Lough Talt Water Supply Upgrade.

Uisce Éireann has published compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) for lands in North Mayo as part of the Ballina and Lough Talt Water Supply Upgrade. The orders are published in this week's Western People.

Uisce Éireann says the multi-million euro project is needed to provide "a safe and reliable water supply to Ballina and surrounding areas, while also supporting future growth and development".

"The proposed upgrades will increase capacity in the supply network, allowing Uisce Éireann to extend the Ballina network to areas currently served by the Lough Talt Water Supply Scheme, which is not sustainable long-term," according to the company.

Additional storage will be provided at Lisglennon and Bonniconlon to enhance the security of supply for Ballina and Bonniconlon. New storage facilities will also be provided at Lough Talt to ensure a stable water supply for South Sligo.

The CPOs are mainly focused on lands around Bonniconlon, Ballina and Killala.

See this week's Western People for the full list of lands to be acquired by CPO.
