Three-year drink driving disqualification

A man caught drink driving has ‘improved himself’ a court heard.

Conor Doran, of Victoria Place, Castlebar, pleaded guilty to the offence before a sitting of Belmullet District Court.

At 1.20am on September 8, 2022, Doran’s vehicle was stopped by gardaí on America Street, Belmullet. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A blood sample later revealed a reading of 172 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Doran has no previous convictions.

Solicitor Michael Bohan said his client had returned from Austria to meet the case. He said Doran has completed an online driver safety awareness court. Mr Bohan said Doran works as a bar manager in Austria and has ‘improved himself’ since his detection. “I think this was a once-off”, the solicitor added.

Judge Fiona Lydon imposed a €300 fine and disqualified Doran from driving for three years
