Chef drove while drunk 'after receiving bad news'

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.

A chef drove while intoxicated "after hearing some bad news", a court was told.

David Guilleminot, aged 52, of 17 Cois na Abhainn, Westport, pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to the offence.

The court heard that Gardaí stopped a vehicle being driven by the defendant at Bridge Street in Westport at 2.50am on November 27, 2022. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and a blood sample gave a reading of 130mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 50mg.

Guilleminot has no previous convictions.

Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client, who works as a chef in Athlone, was apologetic about the incident. He made a foolish decision to drive "after receiving some bad news".

Mr Mulchrone said his client has not driven since the incident and has undergone the Pro-Social driving course, scoring 44/50.

Judge Fiona Lydon imposed a two-year driving ban and a fine of €250.
