Council’s road safety video a viral hit
The road safety campaign proved a huge hit on social media.
A road safety video produced by Mayo County Council at Christmas has been highly successful.
The local authority's Road Safety Office launched the road safety awareness campaign short film in conjunction with An Garda Siochana ahead of Christmas.
The theme of the campaign was ‘The Choice is Yours’ and it was filmed on location in Westport by Mayo-based production company Western Front Studios.
At last week's Roads and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) meeting, road safety officer Gary Smyth said the video was a huge success.
“It has been taken on board by the Road Safety Authority and the Garda Roads Policing unit. It garnered 416,661 post impressions on social media and 287,000 engagements."
Although it was filmed to promote safe driving during the festive season, Mr Smyth said it contains a message that is relevant year-round.
“It is a video we can use again. Road safety campaigns are something we have going on a regular basis on social media,” he said.
