Councillors voice approval for 25-unit housing project in Mayo

Cllr Richard Finn said the project represented 'more progress' in Claremorris.
Councillors have approved a material contravention of the County Development Plan to facilitate the construction of a 25-unit housing development in Claremorris.
The project at Elm Park on the Ballyhaunis Road came up for decision at last week’s meeting of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District Council. The private development was described as a good housing mix of bungalows, semi-detached and maisonettes together with connection to all existing site services, access roads, multi-games area and open spaces.
The motion for a material contravention was proposed by Cllr Tom Connolly and seconded by Cllr Richard Finn. It required support from seven of the 10 councillors with the following members voting in favour of the material contravention: Cllr Gerry Murray, Cllr John Caufield, Cllr John Cribbin, Cllr Richard Finn, Cllr Tom Connolly, Cllr Damien Ryan, Cllr Patsy O’Brien, Cllr Michael Burke and Cllr Adrian Forkan.
Cllr Finn said he was pleased with the decision, adding that the project represented "more progress" for Claremorris.
“After the number of houses that were built last year in the town we are happy to see another 25-house development being granted by Mayo County Council and the planners."
