Councillors pay tribute to an 'absolute gentleman'

The late Joe Moran.
Members of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District have expressed sympathy to the family of the late Joe Moran, Knockaraha, Ballintubber.
Leading a minute’s silence in respect of the former council employee at last week's district meeting, Cathaoirleach Cllr Sean Carey said he wanted to remember their colleague who had only recently retired and sadly passed away after a short illness.
Cllr Gerry Coyle said Mr Moran was an absolute gentleman through and through who was always available to respond to calls, no matter what time of the day or night.
Cllr Brendan Mulroy called for the minute’s silence in respect to Mr Moran while Cllr Peter Flynn said: “Joe was acting town clerk in the town council in 2001 and an absolute gentleman to deal with. He is leaving us way too young and our sympathy goes out to family and colleagues.”
