Congratulations: Ballina students achieve impressive Leaving Cert results

St Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina, students Beth Fair and Michaela Mullaney, who achieved the highest marks in their Leaving Cert class.

Hundreds of Mayo students were among the 65,000 receiving their Leaving Cert results this Friday morning.

Results were released online at 10am and slightly earlier in schools, at 9.30am, with CAO offers due next Wednesday.

Nationally, results are down about 2% due to grade deflation, the first stage of phasing out grade inflation introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite this, the mood was high at many schools throughout the county on Friday morning.

In Ballina, over 80 students collected their results at St Mary’s Secondary School, with three hitting over 600 points in their state exams.

“They have done very well in the Leaving Cert, as our students often do every year,” said Principal Robert O’Reilly. “We had a number of girls doing the LCA programme, which is a terrific option, often underrated, but it has great benefits.”

“We invited everyone to come in and collect their results and have a cup of tea, and it was great to see them back.”

Across town at St Muredach’s College, Principal Wayne Walsh said he was proud of how students performed in the exam and wished them well for the future.

“A lot of the boys came back to get the results in person, and it was great to see them. We’re delighted for them.”

“They are a lovely bunch of students who worked really hard, but more importantly, they impressed by being good people and embodying the ethos and values of our school,” said Mr Walsh.
