Concerns over flooding outside Mayo pub

Cllr Patsy O'Brien raised the issue.

Cllr Patsy O’Brien has called on Mayo County Council to sort out an ongoing problem of heavy rains pooling outside Lyons Pub in Roundfort. The pub recently celebrated its 150th anniversary.

Cllr Ryan told the June meeting of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District: “There was always a problem in relation to water and drainage at this spot but recent heavy rain created a huge pool of water just outside Lyons Pub. It was up to two feet of water and it stays there a long time as well. There are residents there now as well as it operating as a pub so I ask our engineers to look at what needs to be done, whether that is drainage or otherwise. This issue has got worse because of the pavement works.”

The council's senior executive architect Matt Stevens said he recalled “particular soft spots there in the road and also subsidence that had to be rectified”, adding: “It sounds like we may have to do it again.”
