Concerns in Kiltimagh about possible Genfitt relocation

The company has been a fixture in Kiltimagh since the 1970s.
There are concerns about Genfitt moving out of Kiltimagh,
Genfitt was established in the East Mayo town in 1973 and has grown to be the largest independent wholesale supplier of components, machinery parts and spares to the agricultural industry in Ireland. Genfitt Ireland was acquired by Dutch firm Kramp last year.
Kiltimagh-based Cllr Adrian Forkan told last week's meeting of Mayo Co Council that there are concerns locally that the company may be seeking to relocate elsewhere. He said rumours are swirling about the company potentially moving from its Kiltimagh base. He said other towns in the county, including Claremorris, have been mentioned as a possible new home for the firm.
“It would be a a huge loss to the town,” said Cllr Forkan, adding that moving 50 jobs out of Kiltimagh, even to another town in the county, would be a hammer blow.
“You might as well put the shutters down,” remarked Cllr Forkan, who noted that the town has already lost two banks as well as several retailers in recent years.
Cllr John Caulfield also expressed his concern about the issue.
“Every effort should be made to ensure Genfitt remains in Kiltimagh."
Council chief executive Kevin Kelly said it was his understanding that a site in Kiltimagh has recently been offered to the company.
