Community mourns loss of young Mayo man

There is tremendous sadness following the passing of a much-loved young Mayo man who bravely battled illness for a number of years.

Barry Jennings, of The Curragh, Castlebar and formerly of Balla died peacefully at the Mayo Hospice.

A talented musician and singer, Barry was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2018 at the age of just 31. He had just started a new job when he received the heartbreaking diagnosis.

Family and friends undertook a number of fundraisers for Barry and to raise awareness of the disease.

Barry will be sadly missed by his loving wife Catherine (Ca), parents Mary and Tom (Balla), sister Sharon Hughes (Don), brother Paul (Kerry), father-in-law Chris Kennedy, brothers-in-law John and Brian, sister-in-law Christine, aunts, uncles, nieces Mia and Chloe, nephew Aaron, cousins, all the family circle and close friends.

Barry will repose at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Castlebar tomorrow evening (Wednesday) on Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held in Balla Community Hall on Thursday, June 11 at 2pm.

Family request that you wear football jerseys / GAA jerseys / bright colours.

There were many online tributes to Barry following the news of his passing.

Tributes were paid to a “great friend” and his amazing talent for music.

“One of the finest lads I had the pleasure of knowing over the years. RIP Barry. Music in heaven has just got a great addition,” stated a message of condolence.

“A lovely young man gone too soon,” read another.
