Coffee morning this weekend to support baby Kayla
A coffee morning will take place in Ballycastle this Saturday in support of a local family who will travel with their young daughter to Newcastle so she can receive essential medical treatment.
‘Coffee for Kayla’ takes place this Saturday, September 21 from 10am to 4pm in the Shambles, Ballycastle with all funds raised on the day going to support baby Kayla, who turned a year old in June, and who requires a bone marrow transplant.
Kayla, the daughter of Elisha and Kevin, has had regular hospital appointments since birth and developed a serious infection in May 2024. She was diagnosed with an extremely rare, life-threatening condition which causes her immune system to be suppressed and she is at a high risk for dangerous infections, cancer and mortality.
Kayla requires chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant to give her the best chance at a long, healthy life.
As the bone marrow procedure is unavailable in Ireland, her family must travel to the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle in the UK for the procedure and remain there for several months for ongoing treatment. It is hoped they will be able to travel in early 2025. All funds raised at the coffee morning will go towards supporting Kayla and her family while she is receiving this vital treatment.
A GoFundMe page, 'Kayla's Bone Marrow Transplant', has also been set up to help with the fundraising effort.
