CBE is to create 25 new jobs in Claremorris as part of an expansion plans.

The company develops and supplies electronic point of sale (EPoS) solutions for the retail and hospitality sectors.

Set up in 1980 by Gerard Concannon and his wife Catherine, CBE has grown to become one of the largest EPoS providers in Europe. It now supports clients in mainland Europe, the Nordics, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.

After market research with the support of Enterprise Ireland, the company is now also preparing to build on its presence in the UK and expand into new markets within the Eurozone.

CBE’s managing director Gearóid Concannon said the company was experiencing high growth, which is increasing demand across all of its services.

“Both the retail and hospitality sectors are undergoing a significant transformation, embracing innovative technology. Innovation through continuous Research and Development has been the cornerstone of our business and it is through this that we have increased our market share in Ireland and significantly grown in our export markets year-on-year,” he added.

Anne Lanigan, Divisional Manager, Technology and Services with Enterprise Ireland, said the agency has been working with CBE since 1998 and over this time the company has gone from strength to strength.

Minister of State Dara Calleary TD said: “The announcement that CBE will undergo further expansion, creating high-quality skilled jobs here in the west of Ireland is very welcome.

“CBE is an Irish company that has experienced impressive growth, developing and supplying EPoS solutions on a global scale and the creation of 25 new jobs based in Claremorris shows that Ireland is at the forefront of development and innovation in the digital software solutions space. The Government, through Enterprise Ireland, looks forward to continued engagement with CBE to support their business development in overseas markets.”

Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon also welcomed the news.
