Councillors in the Claremorris Municipal District will make plans to host a civic reception for world bronze medal javelin thrower Oisin Joyce.

The talented athlete received a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Ballinrobe last Wednesday evening after securing a podium finish at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru, becoming the first ever Irish man to secure a throws medal.

At last week’s meeting of the MD, Cllr Michael Burke suggested a further commemoration of this unique achievement by hosting a civic reception for Oisin Joyce in the near future.

Joyce set a national U20 record when he threw the javelin 73.89m at the finals.
