Christmas parking measures confirmed for Mayo town

Councillors in Westport have agreed a plan for the town's car parks over the Christmas period.

Councillors in the Westport Municipal District have set out parking arrangements for the town for the Christmas period.

There will be free parking in all Westport car parks from now until January 2, 2024. This lasts all day and will not apply to on-street parking, where the current system of parking charges will remain as is.

The motion was proposed by Cllr Christy Hyland at a special meeting of the MD held this morning and seconded by Cllr Peter Flynn.

Cllr John O’Malley said councillors had spoken and agreed to this to give something back to business owners and allow shoppers to come into town for the day without having to rush their shopping activity.

Cllr Hyland that in the January meeting of the MD, he will put forward a proposal that all rates payers who have paid their rates up to date will be given a permit for free parking.
