Calls for CCTV following alleged assault at Mayo bus stop

There are calls for CCTV at the busy location.

There are calls for CCTV to be installed at the main Castlebar bus stop following an alleged serious assault at the location.

Cllr Ger Deere highlighted the matter at a meeting of Castlebar Municipal District. “There was a serious alleged assault up there a number of weeks ago that is being investigated by Gardai. In the middle of the day and no CCTV camera at the busiest spot. We have the most transient people using that bus stop and coming into town,” said Cllr Deere.

The bus stop is located at Stephen Garvey Way in the town. “To think we have no CCTV up there. We have to seriously look at that,” said Cllr Deere. “You have hundreds of people using that bus stop every day,” he added.

Cllr Donna Sheridan again raised the need for CCTV under the bridge on the walkway to Lough Lannagh. She said the area has become a site for outdoor drinking and woman walking alone now feel “uncomfortable.”
