Call for new taxi rank in Mayo town

A Castlebar councillor has issued a call for a taxi rank on Linenhall Street that could double up as a loading bay during the day to facilitate deliveries to local businesses. 

Cllr Ger Deere raised the matter at last week's meeting of the municipal district.

"We have a number of restaurants and pubs here and the proposal was for a loading bay across from the Barrel and Castle during the day that would serve as a taxi rank at night. For the safety of people, we need a loading bay there during the day for businesses trying to make a living. That area is the hub of nightlife and restaurants in the town and if we want to keep it going we must provide this.”
