'Brought joy to all who knew him' - Tributes paid to victim of Mayo road crash

A Mayo motorcyclist who lost his life in a road traffic collision will be laid to rest this weekend.
Michael (Mick) Mulchrone, aged in his 50s, died at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) in Castlebar after being seriously injured in a crash in Newport on Sunday, August 17.
The father-of-two was involved in a collision with a car at around 4.50pm on the Castlebar Road in Newport. He was rushed to MUH but passed away on Tuesday, August 19.
Mr Mulchrone, of Lakeview, Knockglass, Newport was a hugely popular figure in his local community.
He is survived by his heartbroken family, his wife Margaret, son Keith and daughter Amy, siblings, in-laws, neighbours and many friends.
Tributes poured in for the devoted dad following his tragic passing.
“There are no words to express my condolences to you Margaret and your beautiful children at this heartbreaking time on the loss of your amazing husband and dad Mick. May your memories of happier times give you some comfort. May Mick’s kind and gentle soul rest in peace,” read one message of sympathy.
"He brought joy to all who knew him," another stated.
Western Lakes Cycling Club extended its deepest condolences to the Mulchrone family on their loss.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision. A man, aged in his 60s, was later arrested in connection with the garda investigation. He was subsequently released without charge pending further investigations.
Gardaí have urged anyone who may have any information on the fatal collision to come forward.
