The Ballina Soroptimist Club is marking International Women’s Day this year with the launch of a campaign in conjunction with their national network, Soroptimist International Ireland. The theme for this year is Inspire Inclusion, with the stated aim of inspiring others to understand and value women's inclusion to forge a better world. As one of the leading female networks in Ireland they are uniquely placed to understand and see that when women, regardless of age or background, are inspired to be included, there is a sense of belonging, relevance and most importantly empowerment.

The Ballina Soroptimist Club has been serving the town of Ballina for almost 60 years and through a number of key initiatives including their Public Speaking Competition and annual Charity lunch. They have worked tirelessly to promote the needs of women and those less fortunate in our community.

International Women's Day is celebrated globally and has become a day to recognise women’s achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

[International Women's Day has assumed a global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women's conferences, has helped to build support for women's rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.]
