Appeal against Mayo golf club clubhouse project fails

The Commission has upheld Mayo County Council's decision to approve the project.
An Coimisiún Pleanála has dismissed an appeal against the construction of a new clubhouse at a Mayo golf club.
Mayo County Council previously approved planning for the clubhouse, storage shed and practice putting greens at Mulranny golf club.
The proposal would see a new single storey mainly flat roof with part mono pitch roof element clubhouse and mono pitch storage shed and associated site works including vehicular access ways and parking area and three practice putting greens.
A third party appeal was lodged to An Coimisiún Pleanála citing a number of grounds for objections. These included potential impact on a neighbouring dwelling and safety risks posed by a new road.
The appeal also queried the findings of an environmental report.
“The AA Screening Report is incorrect in relation to the site being a separate habitat to the protected site as it hosts the same flora as the machair including rare fungi and wild flowers,” the appeal stated.
It also queried the impact on otter which the appeal said traverses the terrain.
An Coimisiún Pleanála's inspector said residential and visual amenity and access and parking were the most pertinent points of appeal and recommended a number of conditions to be attached to the development.
“Having regard to the Mayo County Development Plan 2022-2028, to the nature and scale of the proposed development and its relationship with the surrounding area, it is considered that subject to compliance with the conditions set out below, the proposed development would be acceptable and would not seriously injure the residential or visual amenities of the area or of property in the vicinity and would be acceptable in terms of design, visual and landscape impact, environmental impact, access and car parking, and in relation to lighting impact.
"The proposed development would, therefore, be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area,” the Commission commented.
