A charity supporting children with additional needs are hoping to expand their support services further into the Ballina and north Mayo area after a successful event last weekend.

ÁIRC Mayo held Music and Drama classes for children with additional needs at the Glasgow Kennedy Centre, The Quay facilitated by the Treblemakers Academy of Performing Arts.

ÁIRC are a volunteer-led charity, established in 2009, who provide different types of support and relief for families of children with any type of disability. They organize events such as sensory cinema visits, swimming lessons, days out, camps and a wide variety of therapy classes.

Louise Power, a parent and volunteer with ÁIRC said the event was a success and they would like to see more parents and children getting involved in the north Mayo area as they look to expand their county-wide charity.

“It would be great to see parents and children from the wider Ballina area getting involved with us and the support services we provide.”

“We’re all parents with children who have additional needs and it would be great to have more parents involved in what we do,” she said.

“We aim to support and advocate for children up to age 25 with any disability,” she added.

The event was attended by local councillor Mark Duffy who stressed the importance of these events for local communities.

“I want to congratulate ÁIRC and Treblemakers Academy for their successful event here in Ballina. It was great to meet the parents and volunteers who are leading ÁIRC and I would hope that people can support them as they look to expand their county-wide charity and to help more children with additional needs,” he said.

ÁIRC are currently looking to expand their support services in Ballina and are currently looking for a swim instructor to assist with swim lessons in the weeks ahead.
