The summer programme is well underway at Westport Town Hall Theatre with the venue delivering a mix of music and theatre that promises to stir the soul and lift the spirits.
From Wednesday, July 9th, the legendary Seán Keane returns for his much-loved summer residency, performing every Wednesday night through to early September. Now in its eighth season, Seán Keane’s concert series has become a cornerstone of Westport’s summer cultural calendar.
With his distinctive, soulful voice and signature blend of Irish folk, traditional, and contemporary styles, Seán Keane continues to captivate audiences of all ages. Each performance is an emotional journey, featuring songs both old and new, brought to life by Seán’s talented band and the unmistakable warmth he brings to the stage.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a long-time fan, a night with Seán Keane at Westport Town Hall Theatre is a special experience - one filled with stories, song, and the unique magic that only live music can bring.
The laughs and the tears continue on Thursday, July 10th and Friday, July 11th, when the critically acclaimed one-woman play
takes the stage at 8pm. Written by Willy Russell, this hilarious and heart-warming play tells the story of a middle-aged housewife who’s fed up with the monotony of daily life and dares to rediscover her spirit of adventure.With her children grown and her marriage gone stale, Shirley finds herself talking more to the kitchen wall than her husband. But when a chance to travel to Greece unexpectedly arises, she begins to re-evaluate her life, her choices, and her own sense of self. Audiences will join Shirley in her kitchen for a candid, funny, and deeply moving evening of theatre.
This production brings together two outstanding talents - Colette McGinty and Alanna Ní Mhíocháin - both winners of the prestigious All-Ireland Best Actress award. Colette, who plays Shirley, is well known across Mayo for her award-winning performances, most recently as Dr Martha Livingstone in
and Auntie Ah in . Her nuanced, honest performances have earned her wide acclaim.Directing this production is Alanna Ní Mhíocháin, who won the 2025 All-Ireland Best Actress title for her role in
by Marina Carr and has extensive experience directing plays and musicals across Mayo and Sligo. The duo first performed in 2021 to great success and are delighted to return to Westport Town Hall Theatre with this updated production.“This play and this character are very close to our hearts,” said director Alanna. “It’s a joy to revisit Shirley’s kitchen again.”
Colette added: “The script is an absolute gem - funny, moving, and full of truth. It’s a privilege to play Shirley.”
Even more special, this amateur production is being staged as a fundraiser for the Parents’ Association of St Nicholas’s Special School in Ballina, with all proceeds going toward a new inclusive playground equipment for students of all abilities.
