Mayo FC WU19 manager James Johnston
Mayo FC are delighted to announce James Johnston as their new and inaugural Women’s U19 manager for the 2025 campaign.
Mayo FC Chairman Joe Faughnan said James has been a breath of fresh air since he took on the role of Mayo FC WU17 manager last year.
“Under his leadership, alongside his dedicated management team, they’ve made a significant impact on the squad. This season, we’ve seen the girls improve tremendously, becoming a tough team to beat—thanks to the hard work and commitment James and his team have shown over the past number of months.”
“We’re excited to see James and his management team move up to lead the U19 squad next season, and we wish him the very best of luck in his new role. I look forward to working with him in 2025.”
Head of academy Michael English echoed Joe’s words.
“I am delighted that James is on board for another season progressing to WU19 Head Coach. James has been a leading light in the club driving the WU17 team this year, reaching out to the grassroots clubs and developing a brilliant culture within the squad. He is a great asset to the club and I’d like to wish him all the best for the coming season.”
James gave his thoughts on the upcoming campaign and also an insight into his management team and what to expect from them in in the new campaign.
"I am looking forward to the challenging opportunity as Mayo FC WU19 Head coach for the 2025 season and also working with a combination of current and new player talent pool. This season with the WU17s has been a great learning experience for both players and coaching staff and we hope to use this acquired knowledge to progressively develop as a squad.”
“We aim to bring passion, dedication and a positive mindset to everything we do and together we will work hard, face challenges head-on and create a team culture that is based around mutual respect, trust and continual improvement.”
