Man (40s) arrested in connection with bank robbery in Cork

A man has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery of more than €6,000 in Cork.

The man (42), was taken to Togher Garda station, where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows detectives to question him for up to 24 hours about the robbery.

The robbery happened at 2pm on Wednesday, when the raider, wearing a baseball cap and scarf, approached counter staff at the Bank of Ireland branch at Douglas Village Shopping Centre in Douglas, according to the Irish Times.

The man handed over a note informing the staff that he had a gun and gestured towards his coat pocket. The bank teller then passed over around €6,000 in cash from the till.

Gardaí said that no injuries were reported.

The man is due to appear before Cork District Court on Thursday morning.
