Local notes: Walkers to benefit from Foxford funding

€262,500 in funding has just been allocated to nine outdoor recreation trails/walking projects in Mayo, with the Cullonaughton section of the Foxford Way Looped Walk among them. A total of €30,000 has been awarded to the Mayo North East Leader Partnership under the Outdoor Recreation Small Grants for the purpose of improvement works to the popular looped walk which attracts numerous visitors daily.
“I am delighted that this funding has been allocated to upgrade these walks and trails,” said Michael Ring TD who confirmed the news.
“Mayo has an abundance of natural amenities and established walking trails. The enhancement and upgrade works being funded will provide a boost to these local economies by attracting visitors and furthering Mayo’s reputation as a destination for adventure tourism.
“I would encourage everyone to make the most of what our county has to offer,” concluded Deputy Ring.

The Rivers Trust is looking to work with a farmer or landowner around the River Moy with some bogland which they may have drained in the past and now don't know what to do with, or who maybe are looking to diversify and create a new source of income for the farm.
If it sounds like something you could be interested in or if you want to learn more, Freya can be contacted at 087-7405181 or at freya.connolly@theriverstrust.org.
