Kiltimagh’s men’s GAA team will play Junior Championship football next year after defeat to Islandeady last week on a score-line of 1-15 to 0-12.
The relegation final was played in Cong and Kiltimagh trailed from early on. While they did get within touching distance of Islandeady on a number of occasions, they just couldn’t catch up. They went four points behind before wing-forward Conor Malee reduced the arrears to one, with three fine points.
Islandeady got two more to build a three-point the margin, but Jack Niland got one back. Islandeady got another one before Malee got two in reply. Islandeady added another to leave the score at 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.
The on-fire Malee added a point for Kiltimagh to reduce the margin to a single point once again. Donovan Cosgrove cleared off the goal-line to keep Kiltimagh in the game and soon after Islandeady got another point.
From that point on, the game slowly slipped away from Kiltimagh and their survival hopes were dealt a severe blow when Islandeady got the game’s only goal. Cian Gallagher added three points for Kiltimagh and Malee and Oisin Mulderrig got a point apiece, but it was all in vain as Islandeady were getting points as well. In the end the margin was six.
The result means that Islandeady survive in intermediate football with Kiltimagh relegated.
Scorers for Kiltimagh: Conor Malee 0-7, Cian Gallagher 0-3, Jack Niland and Oisin Mulderrig 0-1 each.
Kiltimagh: Seán Gilmartin, Darragh McGovern, Mattie Cummins, Ryan Carroll; Jack Niland, Liam Kelly, Evan Cosgrove; Oisin Mulderrig, Donovan Cosgrove; Liam Lydon, Aiden Cosgrove, Conor Malee; Cian Gallagher, Jordan Henry, Brian Gallagher. Subs used: Tomás Keegan, Max Bennett, Niall Mulderrig and Jack Mahon.
