Ardagh GAA Club's annual 5k fun run/walk held on St Stephen's Day proved an outstanding success. Club officers and committee members wish to thank everyone who participated and supported it. This year's event was dedicated to the memory of former player and club Bord na n-Og manager Diarmaid Farrell who sadly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last July. This year's event attracted record numbers from all over Mayo and Sligo and the organisers were overwhelmed by the generous response of all who came and supported the hugely successful fun event. Two donations of €500 each were kindly presented by the club to Ballina Community Centre's Meals on Wheels which was accepted by Mrs. Olive O'Donnell, from Ballina Community Centre, and to the Colm Munnelly Fund.
Speaking on behalf of Ardagh GAA Club, Chairman, Stephen Molloy, congratulated all the participants and prize winners and stressed it was an occasion which encapsulated all that is good in parish community life and pointed to the record numbers which participated. He added that the club was delighted to be able to help two very worthy causes this year with donations from the proceeds. The chairman also thanked the Farrell family for their involvement and praised the commitment shown by the late Diarmaid as a player and an underage team manager whom he added was always so positive when it came to football training and club affairs. The chairman concluded by saying the event was a fitting tribute to Diarmaid and one which will live long in the memory.
Ladies winners: Lorna Shehan (1), Charlotte Haarhuis (2), and Rebecca McLoughlin (3). Men's winners: Fabio Sassella, (1), Dessie Burke, (2) and Conor McLoughlin (3).
