Deepest sympathies 

The death occurred recently of Alessandro Pasqua, Rathkelly Close, Creagh Road, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo and formerly of Cosenza, Italy. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rossana, sons Paolo, Andrea, Mattia, daughters Sandra, Federica, brother Stefano, sister Marina, sisters-in-law Lucia, Benedetta, Carolina, Rossella, brothers-in-law Piero, Antonello, Francesco, Eugenio, nephews, nieces, relatives and large circle of friends.

Burial took place on Tuesday, February 18, in the New Cemetery, Ballinrobe. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Tacú Family Resource Centre

Walking Group

A walking group meet every Friday beside the clubhouse at The Green, at 11am. This group is for all ages and abilities, and will be a great way to enjoy the fresh air, have a chat, and to stay healthy. There is no cost to take part in this weekly activity. Tacú Centre 50/50 draw

Mary Feeney was the winner of €90 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe.

Gardening Club

A new gardening group ‘Tacú Green Fingers’ organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre, will commence its activities on Wednesday, March 5, in the Ballinrobe Community Garden (Parish Centre if weather unfavourable), from 11am to 1pm. Gardening advice on the day will be provided by gardener Anna Fitzpatrick. Tea and coffee will be provided on the day. All are welcome to attend. The cost to take part is €3 per-session. St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshals

The 2025 Grand Marshals of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ballinrobe are Tom and Kay Treacy. Tom is a pharmacist and set-up Treacy’s Pharmacy back in February, 1961. The couple met in 1959 in the Atlantic Ballroom, Enniscrone, and were married in 1963, and have four children, Mary, Cathy, Tom and Des.

Both Tom and Kay are members of the local business community, were founding members of the Ballinrobe Credit Union, and played a vital role in the Ballinrobe Musial Society over the years. Congratulations to Tom and Kay Treacy on being selected as the Grand Marshals for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade from all your friends in Ballinrobe.

St. Joseph’s National School VEX Robotics team

The St. Joseph’s National School VEX Robotics team took part in the National finals in Cork, on Thursday last. The students were wished the very best of luck from everyone in the school. Details from the event will be available in next week’s edition.

Humanitarian Assistance Scheme

Forms for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme are available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. This scheme provides income tested financial assistance to households affected by the Storm Éowyn weather event. Help will also be provided to people completing forms.

Ballinrobe Bridge Club

The results of a competition held on Thursday, February 20, are as follows: 1st, Irene Walkin and Emer Canny; 2nd, William Enright and Angela Murphy, 3rd, Mary Kelly and Kathleen Nally; 4th, Marie Flanagan and Patricia Hennigan; 5th, Patricia McDonagh and Stella Nalty; 6th, Breege Connolly and Sean O’Neil.

Ballinrobe Town AFC

Ballinrobe Town will play their first home fixture of the new Super League campaign next weekend when they welcome North Mayo side Conn Rangers to The Green. Also next weekend, the Ballinrobe Town (B) team will face an away tie against Manulla (B), at Carramore. Your support for the Robesiders would be appreciated.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €25,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held in John O’Hare’s Bar, on Monday, February 24. The numbers drawn were 7, 9, 14 and 22. The match three winners (€100) were Fintan Sweeney, Liam Duffy, Gillian McTigue, and Anne Lydon.

Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA Underage GAA teams

Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA Club will soon commence training for their underage teams. Parents are reminded to register their child in order for them to play with the club.

Those wishing to register are advised that all membership details and payment options are available through the "Ballinrobe Club App" which can be downloaded from the Apple or Google play store. Various membership options are available to suit all members and families.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

The club held its weekly 50/50 draw in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Sunday, February 23, with Tom Costello the winner of €460.

The junior men’s team are scheduled to face Corinthians Second XV next Sunday, March 9, in the Junior One (B) Super 4’s promotion play-off group. The tie is set to kick-off at 2.30pm in The Green and your support would be appreciated.

Congratulations to Ballinrobe Rugby Club U16 player Aoife Conroy who was part of a Connacht U16 Development team that played Munster in Nenagh recently.

Well done also to Tourmakeady native and Connacht player Faith Durkin who recently attended trials for the Irish Rugby Women’s U18 team. Durkin is set to be involved with the Irish U18 squad in an exhibition match in Manchester over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Garrymore GAA Club lotto

GAA news

Well done to Islandeady players Paul O’Malley, Ryan Mulvanny, Jack McNicholas, Padraig McDonagh and Oisin Toland on their West Mayo GAA U15 trials recently. Islandeady GAA Club registration is now open. Register online by logging onto Foireann.ie / choose your membership and follow the online instructions. There was no winner of the last Islandeady GAA lotto draw which was €10,950.

Generous donation

The Islandeady Wednesday Get-Together extend thanks to the organisers of the Monday Night Card Game for their generous donation of €640 to them this year. This is one of their three annual fundraisers, and it is an important source of finance for them.

Results of the game which was played on Monday night, February 24, were; 1st Liam Walsh; 2nd prize shared by Andrew Holland and Tom Gibbons, 3rd shared by Bridie Walsh, Maura Grimes, Peter O Malley, Mag Needham and Sean Hopkins. Raffle winners were; Andrew Holland, Jimmy Ruane, Jim Mc Loughlin and Ed Muldoon. The game continues every Monday night in Islandeady Community Centre at 8.30pm.

Walking Festival

The Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail is having its annual Walking Festival in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice on Saturday, May 10.
