Sheila Gill (Greenfields) and her son John (Station View) won the €10,000 top prize in the opening draw of the Cairde Mhaigh Eo Club Development Draw, which took place last week.

The draw is a major countywide fundraiser benefiting GAA clubs across Mayo, including Kiltimagh GAA. According to sources within the club, Kiltimagh GAA had a very successful campaign, raising vital funds for the club.

There are six draws in total, running weekly until September 13th. The first and last draws, carry a first prize of €10,000, second prize of €1,000, five prizes of €500, and 30 prizes of €200. Draws 2, 3, 4, and 5 each offer a first prize of €5,000, second prize of €1,000, five prizes of €500, and 30 prizes of €200.

Labyrinth Walks for National Heritage Week

As part of this year’s National Heritage Week celebrations, the Glore Mill Regenerative Living Centre is hosting a series of self-guided nature walks up to next Sunday, August 24th.

The walks are open to the public and take place on the scenic and historically rich lands of Glore Mill, where participants are invited to explore the site’s unique labyrinths, natural features and walking trails at their own pace.

National Heritage Week, which runs from until August 24th, is an annual initiative coordinated by the Heritage Council, aimed at celebrating Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage. This year’s theme, 'Exploring Our Foundations', encourages people across the country to consider not only the physical structures of heritage, but also the cultural practices, landscapes and shared knowledge that have shaped communities over time. In this context, the walks at Glore Mill provide an opportunity to engage directly with the landscape and to reflect on the deep-rooted relationship between people and place.

The walking route at Glore includes riverside paths and woodland trails, incorporating a variety of natural features such as mill races, small waterfalls, a large pond, orchard, forest, springs, and picnic areas. A key feature of the site is a set of four constructed labyrinths, designed to support mindful walking and gentle reflection. The walk is self-guided and suitable for all ages. There is no admission fee, though donations are welcomed and will go toward the ongoing maintenance and development of the centre.

The walking trails will be open each day during Heritage Week, with specific times allocated as follows: Tuesday, 19th, 10am to 6pm; Wednesday, 20th and Thursday, 21st, 9am to 9pm;. Friday, 22nd, 9am to 6pm; Saturday, 23rd, 1pm to 9pm; Sunday, 24th, 9am to 9pm.

Organisers at Glore Mill Regenerative Living Centre are encouraging members of the public to take this opportunity to experience the local environment, engage with the theme of heritage, and enjoy a quiet moment in nature. Further information can be obtained by contacting the centre via email at raycooper120@gmail.com or by telephone on 087-1040438.
