The late Pat Staunton

The death took place peacefully at Mayo University Hospital the week before Christmas of Pat Staunton, Kilcon, Kiltimagh.

Beloved husband of Mary, father to John and Melanie, beloved grandfather to Christopher, Rosin and Gabriel, and dear father-in-law to Johan and Eilish, Pat is also deeply regretted by his beloved brother Tommy and sisters, Sarah Ann and Bernie, all of his dear nieces and nephews.

Pat was a well-known and popular in the community and surrounding area and there was a deep sense of sadness when news of his passing filtered through. He was a friendly and outgoing person who enjoyed being out and about and meeting up with neighbours and friends who were always assured of a good laugh and plenty of chat when they met up with Pat.

He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, relatives, kind neighbours and many friends.

Pat reposed in O’Hora's Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, December 19, with removal afterwards to John the Baptist Church, Knock.

Funeral Mass was on Wednesday morning after which burial took place in Knock Cemetery.

May he now rest in peace.

Car Treasure Hunt

The Car Treasure Hunt was back in Kiltimagh this year after four years and had a great turnout on St Stephen’s Day.

Congratulations to the ‘Strange Black Car’ with Padraic O’Hora and Mark Killgallon on board who took the first prize. Well done to everyone who took part and added to what turned out to be a fantastic day.

The Cill Aodain Choral Society, which organised the event, are grateful to everyone who helped in any way, everyone who participated and all who gave prizes towards the raffle. There were some great prizes on offer and congratulations to all the lucky winners. Massive thanks as always to Sean and Colette Langan for sponsoring the event as they have done for so many years.

A huge thanks as well to Gerry King and Francis McNicholas who laid out the route and the clues, to Gerry’s daughter Aine for all her help on the day, also to Saoirse Rowley who gave of her time to help with raffle and to Denis Charlton for use of his sound system. It really was lovely to see so many families out together for what was a fun-filled afternoon and to see Langan’s Bar packed to full capacity for the presentation of prizes and filled with laughter and good-natured fun. It was wonderful to see such a large turnout after a lapse of four years.

The Hub

The Western Care service users at The Hub at Kiltimagh Knock United have certainly been enhancing the environment, biodiversity and aesthetics of the club over the past year.

Numerous are the comments complimenting their wonderful flower-planting displays, bird tables, polytunnel, seating and other projects.

Their most recent event was to host the Burrenbeo Trust who distributed native trees to people looking to enhance nature on their lands.

The Trust is behind the exciting Hare's Corner initiative, which rolled out in Mayo this year. It is a simple but effective project where you can give back to nature.

The club is looking forward to progressing further environmental and biodiversity works at its grounds in 2024, working in conjunction with The Hub, Ballyhaunis Day Service and indeed the wider community.
