Erris Pool League charitable fundraiser

On Sunday night, June 2, in the Erris Coast Hotel the Erris Pool League Final from 1984 will be played 40 years after the original final failed to reach a conclusion.

Most of the players that played in the original final for The Kiltane Tavern and Flannery's Barnatra will be taking up a cue once again to raise money for two local charities - Western Care Belmullet and Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Back in 1984 pool was as popular as it is now in Erris and crowds came from all over to watch the finals. These two teams couldn't be separated after a few replays and in the end the match was called off due to a dispute over a game. Put this date in your calendar and come out and support this fundraiser as these players come face to face with the green baize for the first time in years.

Empowering Parents

An amazing event was held recently in The Broadhaven Bay Hotel:' Empowering Parents- Supporting Our Young People'. It was great to hear about the work happening with Planet Youth Erris and to see parents so interested in the first initiative of this committee- nosmartphonesagreement, a social contract for national schools. Thanks was extended to Breda Ruane for her presentation on behalf of Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force; to keynote speaker psychotherapist, Laura Coleman. Many said they could have sat and listened to her all night. Her genuine and down to earth approach, humour and absolute wealth of knowledge and experience made for an excellent talk. Feedback from parents has already been so positive and the organisers are delighted that with Mayo Child and Family Support Networks they were able to deliver this event. They now look forward to reviewing the feedback and seeing what other topics or areas would be helpful to cover in the future.

The committee are also grateful to all of the organisations who hosted stands on the evening, they had a great response and appreciate them being part of this event. There are various avenues of support available and more importantly many can now be accessed locally. They hope that they can build on this and ensure people in Erris can access the support they need without the burden of travelling.
