Belmullet hosts Trad ar an mBéal festival

Traditional music will take centre stage in Belmullet from Friday to Sunday, September 18 to 20, as Trad ar an mBéal returns to Áras Inis Gluaire for a weekend of music, workshops and sessions.

The festival gets underway on Friday evening with a special concert featuring renowned singer-songwriter and traditional musician John Spillane, promising a memorable opening night for music lovers.

Saturday will focus on the next generation of traditional musicians, with workshops for children and teenagers, providing young people with an opportunity to develop their skills, learn from experienced musicians and enjoy the social side of traditional music. The workshops will be followed by traditional music sessions, bringing musicians and the wider community together.

Throughout the weekend, Trad ar an mBéal will celebrate the rich tradition of Irish music in Erris while creating opportunities for musicians of all ages and abilities to participate, learn and perform.

With a mixture of concerts, workshops and informal sessions, the festival promises to be a welcoming celebration of traditional music and community in the heart of Belmullet.

The workshops on Saturday are: Fiddle – Therese McInerney; Accordion – Fiachna Ó’Mongáin; Tin Whistle – Christina Heneghan; Concertina – Liam Lonergan; Flute – Molly Pittendrigh; Banjo – Odhrán Ó’ Murchú; while Úna Ní Fhlannagáin will run a workshop on the harp on Sunday.
