Excitement is growing and the momentum building as Moy Davitts GAA Club prepares for their appearance in the final of the county intermediate football championship next Sunday, October 27.
The Red and White are bidding to return to the ranks of the senior championship after several years out of the top tier and standing in their way is a Crossmolina Deel Rovers team who will be intent on revenge having lost to Moy Davitts in the group stages this year and last.
To coincide with the build-up, underage players, coaches, parents and members were all in Sraith Garbh last Saturday at the invitation of the club to meet the senior players as they prepare for the final. The parents and family members of the players were made especially welcome to enjoy the excitement of the build-up to this special occasion. Many young members from the club were also in attendance to have their pictures taken with the players and enjoy a kick-around and refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse.
Next Sunday’s game at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park in Castlebar throws in at 2.30pm and the Moy Davitts club is asking the entire community to get behind the team and decorate the area in red and white. Flags, bunting and car flags can be purchased in shops in Foxford and Bohola.
As many as 14 members of the Moy Davitts squad are former students of St Joseph’s Secondary School which, remarkably, could also lay claim to 18 of the Knockmore squad that was named for last Sunday’s Mayo SFC Final. Another former St Joe’s student is also in the Bonniconlon squad that appears in next Saturday night’s junior championship final against Cill Chomáin whose joint-managers are Nigel Reape and Sean McLoughlin, two more ex-St Joseph’s boys.
Foxford National School invited its students to wear their club colours – the red and white of Moy Davitts and blue and yellow of Knockmore – to school last Friday.

€102 was the jackpot won by Margaret Moore, Foxford, in last week’s S&F United 50-50 draw. The club is very appreciative of the weekly support for the draw, with tickets available in local outlets and online at smartlotto.ie. Season tickets can be purchased for €50 which gains entry to 52 draws.
In line with Diocesan recommendations, it is hoped to have a Baptism team in Foxford Parish to assist the local priest in helping the parents to prepare for the celebration of the sacrament of baptism for their child. Therefore, an appeal has been made for volunteers who would be willing to take part in a short training programme.
From 2025, it is planned that baptisms will take place in St Michael’s Church on one (or perhaps two) weekends each month. Alternatively, parents may wish to have the baptism take place during one of the weekend Masses which would be very welcome.
If you are willing to become part of the Baptism team contact Fr Padraig (087-2422273) or any member of the Parish Pastoral Council.
A reunion of the class of 1966 to ’71 at St Joseph’s Secondary School in Foxford will be held later this month in The Moy Hotel. The event will take place on the Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday, October 26.
The organisers are hoping the word can be spread around to as many former pupils as possible, whether they are living locally or away. For further details contact Michael McDonagh on 087-2474593.
