The Irish Blood Transfusion Service urgently requires 3,000 units of blood each week to maintain the national blood supply. A meeting of Ardagh cemetery maintenance group will take place in Ardagh Community Centre tomorrow night, Wednesday, October 2, at 8.30pm. The current small group commenced work on the clean-up and restoration of the cemetery back in 2003. Boundary walls and the old church ruins were repaired. A new entrance gate and a tall cross were erected and grass and hedge cutting were carried out on an annual basis. This work was aided by the RSS. scheme, also by the generous contributions at annual cemetery Masses and the annual grant from Mayo County Council. However, at present the maintenance work is being carried out mostly by two local members and this is not sustainable going forward. Co-ordinator of the cemetery group, Tony Mulderrig, is appealing for some new people to attend tomorrow night's meeting or call 087 2614670 for more information. It would be a travesty if the cemetery returned to its neglected state pre 2003.
