Many fond Memories were recalled and tributes paid to the late Eileen McNicholas at her 12 noon Requiem Mass which was celebrated in the Church of Christ the King, Knockmore on Wednesday, December 11. The chief celebrant was Fr Murphy, PP from her native parish Kesh, in Ballymote, assisted by Fr Michael Reilly, Mons Sean Killeen, Fr Michael Flynn and Fr John Judge.
Eileen (nee McCormack) of Rinnmore, Knockmore and late of Culfadda, Ballymote, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on Sunday, December 8, following an illness. An illness which she bore with great patience and courage with the help, support and kindness of James, her husband and family. Eileen was daughter of the late Tom and Patricia McCormack and a member of a family of seven. Eileen loved her native parish and returned there regularly to visit family and friends and in more recent years to care for her late mother.
After attending Swinford boarding school Eileen left for the U.K to train as a nurse. After completing her training she returned home and took up a nursing position in Sligo General Hospital. After spending ten years there she went on to spend the next thirty years in intensive care nursing in Mayo General Hospital. It was there that Eileen was to excel with the love and care shown patients under her care.
Her kindness, compassion and expertise was to extend also to the care of family members, neighbours and friends.
Her work colleague in the hospital also spoke of Eileen’s cheerful manner and sense of humour coming to work each day. But for Eileen her first priority was always for family, her husband James and sons David and Jonathan and in more recent years her beloved grandchildren and family siblings.
The many special memories recalled and tributes paid for Eileen over the past weeks we hope in some way will be a consolation to her family at this time.
Deepest sympathy is extended to her family - her husband James, sons David and Jonathan, her beloved grandchildren Rowan and Cathal, her loyal sisters Sheila and Pauline and brother's PJ, Vincent and Christy, daughter-in-law Elaine, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours and friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents Tom and Patricia and sister Breeda. May her gentle soul now rest in peace.
