Double delight for the Deane brothers

Recently saw the 3rd Annual Paddy Monaghan Memorial Doubles take place in Una's Blacksod. As always a brilliant evenings darts and banter played out with 34 teams (68 players) taking to the ochies. With all matches, the best of 5 legs, some cracking games took place in the early rounds, and the standard overall was brilliant. The final was nip and tuck with the team of Noel Keane and Mikey Monaghan looking in position to take control of the match before a brilliant 80 checkout from Johnny Deane paved the way for big brother Pat to checkout 86 on the bull in the next leg to win the title. Well done, Pat and Johnny, and hard luck to Noel and Mikey. The semi finalists were the teams of Noel and Cathal Philibin and Pat and Daniel Irwin. Highest checkout was won by Brendan Conway. A big shout out to Andrew and all the staff in Una’s in Blacksod for the brilliant setup and atmosphere as always; to Sean Deane for sponsoring the trophies and to all that donated prizes and bought raffle tickets with €700 raised for Kilmore FC. Thanks is also extended to Leah and Yvonne for selling tickets, Fred and Shane who ran the show on the day, and to all that helped in any way with setting up or on the day.

Unfortunately, the drama staged by 1st, 2nd and 3rd class was not nominated this year despite an excellent performance by the children who received great praise from the adjudicator at the Connaught Finals in Galway. Great credit is due to Múinteoir Mary Ní Choinín and Michelle Ní Mhaolábhaill who guided the children in staging this performance.
