Major water mains upgrade for Kiltimagh

A major investment in Kiltimagh’s water infrastructure is set to get underway, with Uisce Éireann confirming that crews are beginning extensive mains replacement works on the Swinford Road (R320).

Announcing the project, Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary TD, in collaboration with Cllr Adrian Forkan, said that over 1.5 kilometres of ageing water mains will be replaced as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

In total, 1,521 metres of new, modern piping will be laid, improving the reliability and quality of Kiltimagh’s drinking water supply. The works will also help to reduce the risk of bursts and operational issues across the local network in the coming years.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farran's Construction and are expected to be completed by early 2026.

“This is a significant upgrade for the town,” Minister Calleary said. “It will ensure a more secure and sustainable water service for the community well into the future.”

The project is due to begin this week and is expected to continue through the winter months until early 2026 and is likely to cause traffic disruption on the Kiltimagh to Swinford road.

Coaches wanted

Kiltimagh GAA Club is inviting interested coaches and volunteers to express their interest in getting involved with underage teams for the upcoming 2026 season. The club is looking for both current coaches and newcomers who are eager to support and develop young talent across various age groups.

The club will be running teams for both girls and boys, including girls' LGFA teams at U18/17, U16/15, U14/13, U12/11, U10, and U8, as well as boys' GAA teams at similar age levels. Additionally, there will be a mixed GAA team for U6 beginners.

All coaches are reminded that they must meet the GAA’s mandatory training requirements, which are arranged through the County Board. These include courses such as Introduction to Gaelic Games, Child Safeguarding, and Garda Vetting, coordinated by the club’s coaching and children’s officers.

Kiltimagh GAA Club encourages anyone interested in volunteering their time and skills to get in touch, helping to ensure a successful and enjoyable season for all young players. For more information or to register interest, interested individuals are advised to contact the club’s coaching or children’s officers.
