VW Solid State Battery test ‘exceeds industry target’

Volkswagen is making progress in developing car batteries with longer range.
Volkswagen has successfully completed an important test of a solid-state battery produced by its US-based battery development company PowerCo,
The test indicates that the battery could be used for 500,000km and still maintain 95pc of its charge capacity.
Solid-state battery technology is considered the future of EV production as it promises faster charging, longer range, and higher levels of safety.
In the test, the new battery completed more than 1,000 charge cycles without any significant degradation. For an electric car with a WLTP range of 500-600kms, this corresponds to a total mileage of more than half a million kilometres.
VW and PowerCo say the ‘very encouraging’ results are a milestone on the way to series production.
The industry-standard targets for this development phase are 700 charging cycles and a maximum capacity loss of 20pc, so the PowerCo battery significantly exceeds this.
