The death of a Brazilian woman at an apartment in Limerick City, sparked a full-scale Garda investigation on Friday.

The woman, aged in her early 30s, was found deceased at an apartment located on the third floor of the Carlton House apartment block, at Cecil Street, Limerick.

It’s understood she sustained injuries to her neck.

Gardaí suspect the woman suffered foul play.  However, investigating officers were waiting for the results of a post-mortem before clarifying the nature of their enquiries.

Gardaí were alerted to the apartment block around 7.30am Friday morning, and immediately sealed off the building.

Detectives and uniformed officers were conducting door to door enquiries and harvesting CCTV footage from the apartment block and surrounding areas, as part of their probe into the woman’s sudden death.

Gardaí contacted the office of the State Pathologist to conduct an autopsy.

Earlier, a Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a woman in an apartment on Cecil Street, Limerick City this morning, Friday 21st August 2026.”

“The body of this person remains at the scene. The scene is currently held for technical examination.”

“Enquiries are ongoing. No further information is available at this time,” added the Garda spokesman.

The dead woman was considered a reliable employee at a major grocery outlet in Limerick and when she did not show for work her workmates and supervisor grew concerned and alerted authorities.

“She was very popular and very reliable,” a source said.

“It’s an awful situation for her family and friends.”
